Co-curricular

A King’s education recognises that learning takes place anywhere and everywhere, and at all times of the day. Therefore, we provide a wide range of age-appropriate activities and pursuits for our students both during and outside the normal school day. These include a variety of different sports, together with music, drama, art, debating, chess, community work, and many different school clubs. We also offer our students opportunities further afield in trips and Summer Schools. These activities both complement and enhance the development of the enquiring mind. Academic excellence combined with creative activity and individual expression makes the school a thriving and highly motivated community.

The co-curricular programme also supports our overall aims of providing children with an active and creative education. Most parts link through to the academic curriculum itself. For example, the sport, in particular, links strongly to our provision of Health and Well Being.

The King’s School, Canterbury, has a wonderful history and tradition in music. We intend to continue that here, beginning with basic work in the kindergarten on how to recognise and keep to the beat using simple instruments and body movements to having opportunities to perform publicly, to play in ensembles and orchestras and to sing in choirs in the Primary and Secondary schools. All types of music will be catered for: classical, opera, jazz, pop. In addition, alongside the main staff, we expect to hire visiting music teachers to provide expert coaching and tuition for individual instruments on a one-to-one basis.

As well as giving students these opportunities, a good music education helps to develop:
